The North Castle Police Department was advised by North Castle Town Councilman Barry Reiter on Thursday morning that a suspect had cut down the Liberty Tree at Miller Hill Park overnight.
The tree was first reportedly planted in 1976 to commemorate the Bicentennial, near the historic home that was used by George Washington during the Revolutionary War during the Battle of White Plains.
Officers responded to the park, and confirmed that the tree had been cut down. The incident remains under investigation.
